After two summit attempts in which <a title=\"Edward Felix Norton\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_Felix_Norton\">Edward Norton<\/a> set a <a title=\"World altitude record (mountaineering)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World_altitude_record_(mountaineering)\">world altitude record<\/a>, the mountaineers <a title=\"George Mallory\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Mallory\">George Mallory<\/a> and <a title=\"Andrew Irvine (mountaineer)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrew_Irvine_(mountaineer)\">Andrew &#8220;Sandy&#8221; Irvine<\/a> disappeared on the third attempt. Their disappearance has given rise to the long standing unanswered question of whether or not the pair successfully climbed to the summit.
